Flood Mitigation Update- Urban Forest Strategy

Posted on Jun. 10 2020

Developing long-term climate adaptation goals was an important element of the flood mitigation grant process. A critical first step to achieving these goals is to develop an urban forest strategy. To do this, trees are being inventoried throughout the valley. This will assist us in determining how much greenhouse gas is being captured and the cooling measures. This asset inventory will also determine the life expectancy of the trees and how many replacement trees need to be maintained at our tree farm beside the Drumheller Institution. Geography and Information Technology students from Southern Alberta Institute Technology (SAIT) are currently in the field conducting this inventory.
