Flood Season Starts Today
Posted on May. 15 2020Flood season is May 15 – July 15 in Alberta. Historically, the Drumheller valley floods around the third week of June from a rain-on-alpine snow event.
It is still too early to tell whether the snowpack in the Rocky Mountains could result in flooding. The AB Rivers app measuring snowpack at the Skoki Lodge snow pillow indicates that the melt has started and is approaching the normal range. As well, the Glenifer Lake Reservoir at the Dickson Dam is currently at 45% of total capacity.
We continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis and have inspected all of our outfalls following the spring ice run.
We encourage you to download the AB Rivers app on your phone and become familiar with the forecasters' comments tab as it is an excellent source of information.
