Vibration Monitoring Update
Posted on Oct. 19 2022The DRFMO would like to provide an update on the vibration monitoring that is taking place in construction areas.
There are two sensor locations for each site under inspection (each property does not get its own sensor). The field technicians place the machine sensors adjacent to the section of the berm that is being constructed at two different setback distances from the construction at each location. The two different setback distances give an indication of how the magnitude of vibrations decreases with distance from the compaction equipment. The locations monitored are representative of the construction area as the conductance and damping of vibrations is dependent on the existing soils which are relatively consistent with the length of the project regarding vibration conductance and damping.
To date, all the measurements taken are well below levels that would cause any damage to structures.
