Urgent Notice: Stay Clear of Berms During Construction to Ensure Safety
Posted on May. 19 2023We have an urgent message regarding berm construction. Despite their seemingly flat appearance, it is of utmost importance that we all refrain from using these berms for any purpose during construction, including foot traffic, dirt bikes, ATVs, motorized bicycles, and other activities that may compromise their integrity and impact the establishment of permanent vegetation, resulting in costly re-work.
Why is it crucial to stay off the berms? Let's delve into the reasons:
Preservation of Integrity:
The primary function of these berms is to serve as protective barriers, ensuring effective flood control, erosion prevention, and maintaining the overall stability of our town. Any unnecessary activity on these berms, especially by motorized vehicles, can weaken the soil and erode their structure, rendering them less effective over time.
Safety Concerns:
This is an active construction site, and hazards may be present as the area is not open to the public.
Environmental Impact:
The disturbance caused by motorized vehicles and heavy foot traffic can disrupt the delicate balance of our local ecosystem. The newly top soiled and seeded areas cannot withstand traffic, and we may have to come back in to reshape the topsoil and replant the seeds.
We kindly request your cooperation in sharing this information with others in our community. Spreading awareness about the importance of staying off the newly constructed berms will go a long way in ensuring their long-term effectiveness and safety.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please don't hesitate to contact the Flood Office.
They will be able to provide further information and address any specific queries you may have.
